Genital Warts Information for Women

Although genital warts is a condition which can affect either men or women the actual overall effects which may follow genital warts, along with the treatment of genital warts itself may differ between the two sexes. This being men and women do not have the same body parts which are most commonly affected by genital warts, therefore helping deal with genital warts would have to be different concepts for women in comparison to men.

The women’s infection of genital warts is known as Condyloma. Depending on the actual strain of genital warts changes the actual symptoms of genital warts. For example there are approximately 70 or more strains of genital warts. Most common are 40 of these strains. The strain numbers 6 and 11 of genital warts have a high rate of causing severe breakouts of warts while strains 16 and 18 are more likely to cause conditions such as cervical cancer.

How can a woman get checked for genital warts?

The first thing a woman needs to remember about getting checked for any form of STI, (STI being a sexually transmitted infection) is that she needs to be completely honest about her sexual activities. Being an STI comes from sexual contact traditionally other non-genitalia areas of the body could also get infected if exposed to any other part of the body which is not exterior skin such as the mouth and the anus.

Once a woman and her doctor have properly and honestly covered all possibilities of an infection there are two different kinds of non-surgical operations which a doctor may preform to properly assess whether a female patient has been exposed to Condyloma. These procedures are known as the following colposcopy and the anoscopy.

A colposcopy is a procedure which checks the vulva, vagina, and also cervix for signs of infection and may be followed with other tests of conditions which play alongside genital warts such as cervical cancer.

An anoscopy is a procedure which examines the anus and also rectum of patients. Traditionally individuals who have not had anal sex will not be infected by genital warts in this manner.

Can genital warts lead to cancer?

As we have stated previously some strands of the genital warts virus may in fact play a part in the formation of cervical cancer in women. Women whether they have genital warts or not should be regularly examined for the possibility of cervical cancer being the condition can remain silent until it is too near late to be cured.
